ABOUT LYME DISEASE

Lyme disease is an infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, a type of bacterium called a spirochete that is carried by ticks and potentially other blood sucking insects. An infected tick can transmit the spirochete to humans and animals that it bites. If it's undetected and untreated, the  the Borrelia bacterium goes through the bloodstream, establishes itself in various body tissues, and can cause a number of symptoms. These symptoms range from severe to mild, and often times can imitate other health conditions.
